FAQ

Good questions, answered.

Everything you might want to know before booking a DJAtYours performance.

Booking & how it works

How do I book a DJAtYours performance?

Booking starts with a conversation — call, text, or WhatsApp us with your occasion, date, approximate guest count, and the vibe you're after. We'll discuss music taste and timing, match you with the right DJ, and confirm everything before the booking is locked. No online forms, no automated replies. A real person handles every booking.

The pre-booking conversation is where most of the important work happens — it's how we make sure your DJ shows up knowing exactly what you need.

How much notice do I need to book?

We recommend booking at least one week in advance for small gatherings and two to four weeks for weddings or large events. Saturdays fill fastest — the earlier you reach out, the better your options. For urgent bookings, reach out and we'll do our best.

Peak dates (long weekends, summer, December) book weeks ahead. If you have a firm date, don't wait.

Do you quote a price before confirming?

Yes, always. We give you a clear quote based on your occasion, duration, and any extras (lighting, additional equipment) before anything is confirmed. No surprises on the night — and no overtime clocks watching the budget.

Pricing is determined by set length, occasion type, and location. We'll be upfront about the number in the first conversation.

Setup & your space

What space does a DJ setup require?

A 2×2 metre corner or alcove is enough for most setups. Your DJ will review your space in the pre-booking conversation and confirm the ideal placement. We work around your furniture — no rearranging required unless you prefer it.

For larger setups (additional speakers for a big space, multiple lighting rigs), we'll flag exactly what's needed when you book.

What equipment do you bring?

Your DJ arrives with professional-grade controller, speakers sized to your space, and cabling. Optional LED mood lighting is available to add. Everything is packed in flight cases, set up cleanly, and removed at the end of the night.

We don't use consumer Bluetooth speakers or laptop DJ software. This is proper professional-grade kit, scaled to your space.

Will the music be too loud for my neighbours?

Our DJs are experienced in home and residential settings and know how to calibrate volume for the space without triggering complaints. We discuss your neighbours, your building type, and any noise curfews in the pre-booking conversation — and respect them throughout the set.

Noise management is part of what a good home DJ does. We're not here to get you a knock on the door at 10pm.

Music & the performance

Can I request specific songs?

Absolutely — and we encourage it. Your DJ will ask for a playlist or reference tracks before the booking, plus any must-plays and any songs to avoid. On the night they'll work these into the set naturally, as well as reading the room in real time.

The consultation call before the event is specifically for music preferences. Bring your references, your playlists, your banned list — the DJ has heard it all and will make it work.

Is the performance really live, or is it a playlist?

Genuinely live. Your DJ mixes in real time — reading the energy, blending tracks, adjusting tempo and vibe as the evening evolves. This is what a professional DJ does; it's categorically different from a playlist on shuffle or a pre-recorded set.

The difference between a live DJ and a playlist is the same as the difference between a live musician and a recording. One responds to the room.

Areas & pricing

Which areas do you serve?

DJAtYours currently serves the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, and Oakville. If you're just outside the GTA, reach out — we'll let you know honestly if we can make it work.

We're expanding across Ontario. If your area isn't listed, ask.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing is based on the type of occasion, set duration, and any add-ons (lighting, extended setup, large-venue equipment). We give you a clear quote before confirming — no hourly meters, no overtime surprises. Setup and teardown are always included.

Every booking is priced for the whole job, not the clock. You'll know the number before you commit to anything.
